Santa Claus Message

I came across PNP site through my friend Sharlíe Macente and loved the idea of creating a personalized video. It`s very simple to use it, you just select some information and photos and it`s done.

By the way, my daughter loved it.

QR Codes

It`s been a long time I`ve been listening to teachers talking about QR Codes but I had never had a try. Some weeks ago I came across Eduardo Santos blog and it seemed very easy to use in class.
Procedures:
1st - I asked students to download i-nigma QRcode reader to their mobile phones.
2nd - I prepared some questions using QR Code Generator from Classtools
3rd - I took the QR Codes to class, but instead of priting them, I prepared some flipchats on Promethean Interactive board.
See my My Questions here.
Results:
Students were highly motivated and they have started sending messages to each other using the QR codes.

Awarding Badges

Inspired by Edmodocon, I decided to try awarding badges to my students. At first it didn`t seem anything special, but my group is getting crazy about it. It has been highly motivating.
What I`ve been doing is selecting online tasks which are shared via our edmodo group and awarding the badges for the students who have completed each one, some tasks are done in class, others at home. These bagdes are selected by me and uploaded to my edmodo account and later awarded to students.
Two badges I`ve already used

There is also a good article about this subject by Cathy Davidson

Class Tools

I've prepared this game using ClassTools to revise some adjectives with my students, in fact they asked me to use this tool. They enjoy playing WORDSHOOT. Hope you have fun.

Today I came across PicLits and I decided to explore it.
Here are some ideas:
- Writing: use the drag-n-drop to brainstorm vocabulary; use freestyle so that students can write their texts and share them.
For lower levels, I thought of selecting some words and asking students to order them so that they could have complete sentences

- Speaking: use the drag-n-drop to input vocabulary so that students can describe the pictures.

My first try:
PicLit from PicLits.com

Writing is fun

Writing is one of the hardest skill for my students, so when I came across Writing Fun by Jenny Eather I was amazed, since then I have been using it to help my students to develop this skill. My students claim that following her steps and expressions they can do the tasks much faster.

LIVETYPING

I chose livetyping to develop a warmer activity aiming to reinforce the structures of 2nd and 3rd conditionals.

I had two computers in class and I asked students to complete the stem sentences (I WOULD..../ I WOULD HAVE...), after they had done so I clicked ENLIVEN, grabbed the code and shared their work in our edmodo group.

I got the idea for this activity from www.lifefeast.blogspot.com, where Ana Maria Menezes used the same tool to work with gerunds and infitives.

This video shows how the activity looks in edmodo.

Reading Task

I came across Urtak via Nik`s learning Technology blog and I prepared this task.
I`ve asked my students to read the article below and answer the questions.

New Zealand

Project

I`ve developed this project in order to drill Future perfect tense. You might notice some pronunciation problems which I`ve already dealt with in class. The students who took part in it, liked the idea of having themselves recorded in spite of having some trouble with voicethread.

IMAGES

Using images in class might make teachers`lives easier. In the past we would take a lot of flascards to class in order to have some visual input.
I came across flickriver via Nik`s technology blog.

What I did in class
- I used it to revise "weather" vocabulary, students were asked to describe the pictures

Other options
- The teacher could use the pictures to present vocabulary;
- as a lead-in to reading, listening tasks;
- picture dictation.

The first time I came across with www.glogster.com I couldn't imagine how many things you can create with it.
Revisions are my favourites.

Quiz

I came across www.proprofs.com via AnaMaria menezes. And I gave it try today. With this tool you can create a quiz, so I created one to help my students revise for their test. It's incredibly easy.

Kids

Today I came across BBC CBeebies via Diigo. If you are teaching children it`s worth having a look. Some stories are not available, but there are some which are really colourful.

Powerpoint

This is a lesson I prepared using ActivInspire, but I changed it into ppt so that other teachers could view and download it.

Audiopal

It's the first time I'm trying AudioPal, and it seems really easy too.

Vocaroo

It's been some time I've been using Vocaroo with my students. What I like about vocaroo is that it is very easy to be used, so students do not have problems in doing the task. Normally, I send dictations or ask students to record themselves and send me.
Here is an example of a dictation

Wordlearner

What I really like about wordlearner is that you can create exercises for your students. I sent them different kinds of exercises (crosswords, wordsearching, etc) with the same vocabulary. Great for memorizing.

EflFlow

Some weeks ago, a colleague of mine (Eduardo) sent me the link for EFLFlow. There are a lot of activities for different abilities.
